COCOA BROWNIES 1/2 c. shortening 1 c. sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2/3 c. flour 1/2 c. cocoa 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. chopped nuts Fudge Frosting (recipe follows) Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well blended. Measure flour. Blend dry ingredi- ents; mix in. Stir in nuts, spread in well greased pan (8 x 8 x 2-inch). Bake about 30 minutes, cool; cut into 2-inch squares. Makes 16 brownies. If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt. Frost with Fudge Frosting for brown- ies. Fudge Frosting for Brownies; Regular Brownies: 1 c. brown sugar, packed 3 Tbsp. butter 1/4 c. cream 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate (1 oz.) 1/2 tsp. vanilla Family Size Brownies: 1 1/3 c. brown sugar, packed 1/4 c. butter 3 Tbsp. cream 1 1/2 sq. unsweetened chocolate 1/2 tsp. vanilla Combine sugar, butter, cream and chocolate in saucepan. Boil over medium heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add vanilla. Beat without cooling until thick enough to spread.
