GERMAN LEBKUCHEN 1/2 c. honey 1/2 c. molasses 3/4 c. brown sugar 1 egg 1 Tbsp. lemon juice 1 tsp. grated lemon rind 2 1/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. allspice 1 tsp. nutmeg 1/2 c. citron 1/3 c. chopped nuts Mix honey and molasses and bring to boil, then cool thoroughly. Add brown sugar, well beaten egg, lemon rind and juice. Sift flour before measuring. Mix and sift, flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and nutmeg and stir into the honey and sugar mixture. Add citron and nuts. Let stand overnight in cool place. In the morning, roll out to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with square cookie cutter. Place cookies very close together on greased baking sheet. Bake in 400 degrees oven about 15 minutes. Spread icing over cookies while hot. Icing: 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. water 1/4 c. powdered sugar Boil sugar and water until hair appears on spoon. Remove from heat. Stir in powdered sugar. If icing becomes stiff, reheat, adding a bit of water.
