RED VELVET CAKE 1/2 c. Crisco 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 oz. red food coloring (save a small amount for icing) 2 eggs 2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cocoa 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. soda 1 Tbsp. vinegar 1 tsp. vanilla Cream Crisco, sugar and food coloring. Add 2 eggs. Mix flour, salt and cocoa. Add buttermilk. Fold in soda, vinegar and vanilla. Mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Red Velvet Cake Frosting: 1/4 c. flour 1 c. milk 1 tsp. salt food coloring 3/4 c. Crisco 1 c. sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 1 c. coconut Combine flour, milk, salt and food coloring. Cook until thick. Let cool. Cream Crisco, sugar and vanilla. Add to first mixture when it is cool. Add coconut. Frost cooled cake.
