APPLE DUMPLINGS (Makes 6 Dumplings) Dumplings: 6 cooking apples 1/2 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 Tbsp. butter pastry for one 9-inch double crust pie Syrup: 2 c. water 1 c. sugar 3 Tbsp. butter 1/4 tsp. cinnamon Peel and core apples but leave them whole. Roll pastry into 1/8-inch thickness and cut into 6 squares. Place apple in center of each square and fill each apple with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar (2 to 3 teaspoons in each apple). Dot each apple with butter. Bring together opposite ends of pastry squares together at top of apple. Moisten dough and pinch to seal. Place dumplings in baking dish. Combine syrup ingredi- ents and boil for 3 minutes. Pour hot syrup around dumplings and bake for 40 to 45 minutes in a 425 degrees oven.
