DON'S YEAST ROLLS 1 1/2 c. water 1 1/2 c. milk 6 Tbsp. sugar 6 Tbsp. shortening (Crisco or bacon grease) 2 pkg. dry yeast 6 1/2 c. self-rising flour Put water, milk, sugar and shortening in saucepan. Heat until shortening melts and sugar dissolves. Set aside until lukewarm, then take 1/2 cup of liquid and dissolve yeast in it. Pour liquid and yeast mixture into large bowl. Stir in flour. Mix well. Cover with wet cloth and set in warm place until double in size. Stir down and let rise again. Roll out dough like biscuits except a little thicker. Put in greased pan and let rise, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake until brown. Take rolls out. Brush tops with butter. Makes 3 or 4 dozen.
