PRIZE WINNER CHALLAH 2 pkg. dry yeast 3/4 c. warm water pinch of sugar 1 3/4 c. hot water 1 Tbsp. salt 1/2 c. sugar 1/3 c. oil 3 c. all-purpose flour 2 eggs 5 1/2 c. flour (additional) 1 egg (for glaze) Combine yeast and warm water in bowl. Stir to dissolve yeast and add pinch of sugar. Cover bowl; set aside. In second bowl, pour hot water, salt, sugar and oil. Mix before adding 3 cups flour. Beat well. Add yeast mixture to flour mixture. Beat eggs. Add to flour mixture and stir. Add additional flour 1/2 cup at a time until mixture cleans sides of bowl. Knead. Return to bowl; cover with towel and let rise 1 hour. Place on floured board and knead. Grease cookie sheet. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Divide dough into parts to form a large braided loaf. Beat egg and brush on loaf. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, until golden brown. Cool on rack 1 hour.
