CRUSTY WHITE BREAD 6 c. flour 2 pkg. dry yeast 4 Tbsp. sugar 4 tsp. salt 4 Tbsp. shortening 1/2 c. warm water Make a well in flour; put in sugar, salt, shortening and yeast. Add warm water and work into a dough; add more water until all flour is blended into a soft dough. Knead about 10 minutes. Grease a bowl and allow dough to rise for 1 hour. Punch down. Let rise 1 more hour in loaf pans. Makes 2 loaves. Bake in a preheated 325 degrees oven for 50 minutes. If your oven tends to cook hot, adjust heat down.
