GERMAN SWEET AND SOUR RED CABBAGE 1 lb. red (purple) cabbage 1 medium onion 1 Tbsp. butter or bacon drippings pinch of salt 1 Tbsp. sugar 1 Tbsp. vinegar Grate or chop cabbage. Lightly brown onion in butter or bacon drippings. Add to cabbage, pinch of salt, sugar and vinegar. Cover to about 1/2 with boiling water. Cook about 3/4 hour, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasonings to taste.
